The best thing about the practice is when you can get a appointment they give you great care and you can put your trust in your doctor,If the patients got to see the same doctor each visit the visit time would not be as long because the doctor would have sense of purpose of that patients health history.

When and if you can get an appointment most of the staff are lovely and the doctors and nurses are good but they just permanently take new patients on when they cant even cater for the ones they have! So normally i end up going to the out of hours doctors as cant get an appointment here!

my daughter was home from university having been a patient with North Carlisle Medical practice before going to university she was told by her doctor that if she required a doctor when she was at home from university she could phone the surgery and a doctor from the practice would see her, recently when home she needed to see a doctor when she called the practice she was told that because she didn't live north of the river she could not be seen by a doctor at the practice and that she would have to use another practice. She had been registered with North Carlisle medical practice/ stanwix medical practice from the day she was born I would like to know how some office manager can make such a decision without speaking to the doctor concerned. this type of service has left a extremely bad taste that unless you are reside in a certain area you will NOT be seen by doctors that you know and trust. yours, william mccormick carlisle

Response from Carlisle Healthcare

I am very sorry you are disappointed with the practice. The practice has a boundary that covers North of the City. We are contracted to cover this area only. Historically we do have patients residing elsewhere however if any of these patients move address they are automatically asked to register with another practice. Geographically it is not efficient with the patient demand these days for us to cover the full city and rural areas. Although only a small proportion of patients are currently housebound sometimes this can take the doctor away from the practice for 1.5 hours when the patients resides over in Morton etc. This is taking away 20 consultations for that day in practice and with an above average demand for appointments we also have to balance the time a doctor is in and out of the practice. I realise not everyone is housebound however with the ageing population we have to plan ahead. I am of the understanding all practices with set boundaries also follow this rule. Having read your comments on the 'I want great care' website I gather you discussed your dissatisfaction with our office manager therefore I would like to reassure you that this policy has been in place for over 10 years and one that the previous partners (Doctors) and practice manager agreed at the time. The current partners are also in agreement with the policy for the reasons I have stated above. The office manager was only doing her job and following the policy therefore rest assured we are not overzealous bureaucrats trying to make life difficult for patients. Quite the opposite to be fair! I do understand your frustration as I would probably feel the same way without knowing the reasons for the policy and also having the added concern of being a parent and wanting the best for our children. You made a fair point about your daughter wanting to speak to the doctor she knows and trusts, continuity and having a good rapport with a health professional is very important. I have also received your email therefore will message you direct. Thank you for your comments. Anna M Sives Practice Manager North Carlisle Medical Practice
